Famous People Living in Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City, the capital of Oklahoma is the most populated area in the state. There are many famous people living in Oklahoma City or that lived here at some point. Some grew up here and others were born here. Let’s look at some of them:

– Will Rogers, an American cowboy, vaudeville performer and humorist lived in Oklahoma City. He was born on November 4, 1879 (1879-1935) and died September 15, 1935 with his pilot Wiley Post when their small airplane crashed in Alaska. Even though he grew up working on his family’s cattle ranch near Oologah OK, he moved to Oklahoma City where he worked as a newspaper columnist for the “Oklahoma News” before moving to New York.

– Garth Brooks is another famous person who was born here. Born on February 7th 1962 as Troyal Garth Brooks, this American country music singer has won many awards including Grammys and Academy of Country Music Awards several times over. He has also been inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Oklahoma Hall of Fame. His many albums include: Garth Brooks (1989), No Fences (1990), Ropin’ The Wind (1991) and Fresh Horses (1995).

– Charles Kimball “Chuck” Norris is an American martial artist, actor and media personality. Born March 10th 1940 as Carlos Ray Norris Jr., he is famous for playing the starring role in the television series “Walker,Texas Ranger”. While filming on location in Okahoma City for the show’s run, his family made their home here. Chuck was born in Ryan OK but grew up on a farm near Cherokee OK where he attended Grandview public schools before moving to Torrance CA for his high school and college years.

– Reba McEntire is another one of those famous people living in Oklahoma City. Born on March 28, 1955 as Reba Nell McEntire she is a singer, actress, producer and television show hostess who has won many awards including Grammy Awards and induction into the Academy of Country Music Hall of Fame. She has been inducted to the Grand Ole Opry and Oklahoma Hall of Fame. Some of her popular albums include: Out Of A Dream (1989), For My Broken Heart (1991), Read My Mind (1994) and Starting Over (2002).

-Thomas Jefferson Terrell Jr. is an American politician from the U.S. state of Oklahoma who currently serves as the 48th Oklahoma Secretary of State under Governor Mary Fallin, since 2011 when he succeeded retiring incumbent Chris Benge . He has been a practicing attorney, banker and businessman most of his career prior to being elected into political office where he served three terms as Mayor of Del City OK before being elected to the position of Secretary of State in 2010 defeating State Representative Randy McDaniel . In May 2014, he announced that he would not seek reelection to a fourth term as Secretary of State.

– Blake Shelton is an actor, musician and television personality who was born on June 18, 1976 as Blake Tollison Shelton in Ada OK. After his parents divorced when he was six years old, he grew up on his father’s ranch with animals and country music which became a massive influence on him. His first introduction to the music industry came through Hanna Barbera Productions’ 1990 album titled “All About Bullies, Big & Small” where he was the founder of the singing group The G stable . Some of his popular albums include Pure BS (2009), Loaded: The Best Of Blake Shelton (2011) and If I’m Honest (2016).
